Introduction

The following chapter about Pestalozzi's Neuhof years describes why Pestalozzi bought land to build up an estate with a brand-new grand house- the Neuhof- near the village of Birr in the Canton Aargau. Additionally the chapter describes projects Pestalozzi realized or at least tried to realize during these years. The main emphasize however is put on his family's fate, his farm, his house for the poor, his literary work and his political ambition.

The following chapter contains a few longer quotations of Pestalozzi's writings. To emphasize these parts they are written in italics. In the references the scientific-critical edition of Pestalozzi's works is marked with PSW 1-29, the scientific- critical edition of Pestalozzi's letters with PSB 1-14.
